How to play

Match the small target swatch. Drag around the hue ring to choose a color. In Classic, move inside the shade field to adjust its saturation and lightness. Lock your choice to see a split comparison.

Each round earns up to 100 points. Exact matches score 100; perceptual color distance lowers the score. Five rounds total 500. Daily uses the same UTC date and difficulty for everyone. This is a game, not an eye test.

More about scoring and controls

About this color matching game

This is the matching half of Color / Play: a color matching game where the target never leaves the screen. A small swatch sits beside the wheel with the color you are aiming for, so the game is about careful comparison rather than memory. Read the swatch, drag the handle around the hue wheel, and lock your choice to see the two colors split side by side with your points for the round.

Easy and Classic

Easy asks for hue only. Classic opens the shade field inside the wheel: move left or right to change saturation, up or down to change lightness, and combine all three to close in on the exact color. There is no timer while you answer, so you can take your time and adjust as often as you like before locking.

Scoring, daily challenges and sharing

Each of the five rounds is scored by perceptual distance in OKLab: an exact match earns 100 points and a full run is worth 500. The daily challenge gives everyone the same five targets for the same UTC date, game and difficulty. Your first attempt is the one that is kept — leave part-way and later attempts that day are practice, and a completed first score is never replaced. A finished run can be shared as a spoiler-free challenge link that reproduces exactly these five colors.

Best scores live in this browser, per game and difficulty. Play with a pointer, or focus the wheel for arrow keys (Shift for bigger steps) and open Keyboard controls for labeled sliders. Sound is optional and starts off.

Prefer remembering over comparing? The color guessing game hides its targets after a few seconds, and the color memory game asks for growing sequences.
